BREAKGLASS

Emergency

If someone is unconscious or not breathing, call for help first — whenever it is possible to do so — then start CPR. This page works offline. Stay calm and do the next clear thing.

  1. Shout and tap the person's shoulders. No response?
  2. Send someone to call emergency services and fetch an AED if there is one.
  3. Tilt the head back, lift the chin, and check for normal breathing for no more than 10 seconds.
  4. No normal breathing: push hard and fast in the center of the chest — 30 compressions, then 2 breaths. Repeat.
  5. Keep going until help arrives, an AED is ready, or the person starts breathing.
